Halloween GUNFIRE — Four Dead, Suspect Caught

Halloween celebrations in Dallas turned deadly as three separate shootings within 75 minutes left four people dead and at least 15 wounded across the Deep Ellum entertainment district, police confirmed Sunday.

Three Shootings in One Hour

The violence erupted just after midnight on Halloween night, beginning at 12:20 a.m. near the 2600 block of Elm Street. A second shooting followed at 1:05 a.m. on the 2600 block of Main Street, and a third occurred at 1:35 a.m. on the 200 block of South Crowdus Street. Dallas Police Chief Daniel C. Comeaux said investigators are working to determine whether the incidents are connected, though early evidence suggests they may be unrelated.

Police sources told the Dallas-Fort Worth ABC affiliate WFAA that at one location, a man allegedly announced he was going to start shooting before opening fire. That single location accounted for at least three of the four deaths. Authorities have taken one suspect into custody and continue searching for at least one additional person of interest. The casualty count may climb as some victims transported themselves to hospitals without waiting for emergency services.

City Officials Respond

Dallas Mayor Eric L. Johnson condemned the violence as unacceptable and called for renewed safety measures in Deep Ellum, a historic neighborhood known for its nightlife and entertainment venues. Johnson emphasized that public safety must remain the city’s highest priority and pledged to explore new strategies to protect residents and visitors in the popular gathering area.

City Manager Kimberly Bizor Tolbert confirmed that Dallas Police officers were already on the ground when the shootings began and responded immediately to each scene. She promised continued investigation to bring all responsible parties to justice and said authorities would release additional information as it becomes available. Both Johnson and Tolbert extended condolences to the victims and their families during what should have been a festive holiday celebration.

What This Means

The Halloween shootings represent one of the deadliest nights in recent Dallas history and raise serious questions about security measures in entertainment districts during major holidays. Deep Ellum has experienced periodic violence despite increased police presence, and these incidents will likely prompt city officials to reconsider how they protect crowded areas during peak times. The fact that officers were already present when the shootings occurred underscores the difficulty of preventing determined attackers in densely populated areas.
