Supreme Court DENIES Trump – He’s OUTRAGED

The Supreme Court rejected the Trump administration’s emergency request to segregate mail ballots from 20,000 alleged noncitizens in California, delivering a swift rebuke just days before the 2026 midterm elections. The unsigned, one-line order marked the second federal court defeat for the Justice Department’s unprecedented attempt to intervene in state election procedures.

Federal Push for Ballot Segregation Fails

The Justice Department filed suit against California officials and Dean Logan, the Los Angeles County registrar-recorder, demanding that ballots from suspected noncitizens be set aside and not counted until citizenship could be verified. The administration sent letters to all 58 California counties with lists of individuals it claimed lacked citizenship status. Both the district court and the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals refused to grant the requested injunction before the Supreme Court’s denial.

The dispute emerged as Republicans fight to maintain congressional control in the midterm elections. More than 6 million mail ballots have already been returned across California, where early voting began in October. The state has over 23 million registered voters, making the 20,000 contested ballots a fraction of the electorate.

State Officials Challenge Federal Data

California and local election officials raised serious concerns about the accuracy of the federal government’s noncitizen list. Officials warned that complying with the Justice Department’s demands could disenfranchise legitimate U.S. citizens who were incorrectly identified. The Trump administration initially contacted state and Los Angeles County officials last month, ordering them to segregate ballots from the suspected noncitizens until citizenship verification was complete.

The Supreme Court acted without requesting a response from California election officials, suggesting the justices found the emergency request lacked merit. No dissenting opinions were noted in the brief order, indicating unanimous rejection across the Court’s ideological spectrum.

Election Integrity Questions Remain

The case highlights ongoing tensions between federal enforcement priorities and state election administration. The Trump administration’s attempt to intervene in California’s ballot counting procedures during an active election cycle represents an aggressive interpretation of federal authority over state-run elections. With voting already underway and millions of ballots submitted, the practical challenges of segregating specific ballots while maintaining voter privacy and security complicated the administration’s request. The Supreme Court’s swift denial ensures California will count all submitted ballots under existing state procedures, barring any subsequent legal challenges.
